One Book One UUSG

UU Society of Geneva

The WOW Team is happy to announce another opportunity to read an excellent book and gather with friends for a discussion. Carol and Glenda have chosen A Yellow Raft in Blue Water by Michael Dorris.  This is an older book and should be easily accessible at the public library, however, if you choose to purchase it, please remember our independent bookstores, Townhouse in St. Charles and Harvey's Tale in Geneva. We will meet on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 7pm in the Common Room. We would appreciate an RSVP to peckrglenda@gmail.com by Monday, January 16th, so we can better plan for our evening together.

Please read below for a "taste" of this dynamic novel.
Michael Dorris has crafted a fierce saga of three generations of Native American women, beset by hardships and torn by angry secrets, yet inextricably joined by the bonds of kinship. Starting in the present day and moving backward, the novel is told in the voices of the three women: fifteen-year-old part-Black Rayona; her American Indian mother, Christine, consumed by tenderness and resentment toward those she loves; and the fierce and mysterious Ida, mother and grandmother whose haunting secrets, betrayals, and dreams echo through the years, braiding together the strands of the shared past.
