Pre-Civil War Quilts: Secret Codes to Freedom on the Underground Railroad

Connie Martin, as a sixth-generation descendant of captured and enslaved Africans, has had stories passed down to her as part of her family history and enjoys retelling not only her families’ stories, but also the history of the Underground Railroad and the abolitionists who changed history.

Join us as Connie Martin tells the history of the Underground Railroad, safe routes used from South to North, and stories of how family quilts held secret codes and hidden messages.

Please sign up at uusg.org/spring-potluck if you plan to attend and indicate the dish you’ll bring to the potluck.  Drinks will be provided by the Social Justice team.
