Membership

Welcome to UUSG! We are so glad that you’ve joined us. Many newcomers will attend our Sunday Services and other UUSG events for a few months and then decide to attend our Orientation & Membership Classes, which we offer a few times throughout the year. Others decide that they would like to wait a bit longer before joining, others are ready right away! There are many pathways to membership and we are here to help you find the best one that fits for you and/or your family. If you have questions about membership or general inquiries, please reach out to our Congregational Administrator, Christine Imielski, at office@uusg.org and she will be happy to assist you.

Our Next UU/UUSG History Class & Membership Classes will take place on June 2 and 16, 2024. More details will be shared as we get closer to the date.

Orientation & Membership Class descriptions

Three times a year, we offer a two-part series designed to orient visitors to what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist and to explore membership at UUSG. Each class generally takes two hours.

The first class, UUA/UUSG History, features how Unitarian Universalism came to be, and interesting details about the people and events that make up the history of UUSG. Participants watch a fifteen-minute video about the denomination, then share our spiritual journeys and discuss the seven principles of UUA over lunch. We watch another short video on the history of UUSG. The minister is usually present to answer questions.

The second explores the opportunities and responsibilities that come with membership at UUSG. Participants enjoy lunch together as we share where we fall on a belief continuum, anywhere from atheist to belief in a personal deity who responds to our prayers. It’s interesting to learn how different we are.

We discuss the importance of attendance, religious education for spiritual growth, the gift of service to the church community, financial matters, and the many ways to connect and get involved. The minister is usually present to answer questions. An opportunity to sign the membership Book is always provided.
